The silverfish is called “太刀魚” in Japanese, which mean fish like a katana. Silverfish has migration behavior, like to chase small prey along the shore at evening, also they like lights and fire, they eat a lot and they are aggressive.
Silverfish usually stay at deep water layer during day time, and prey at shallower water layer at night. They migrate with group and like to eat small fish such as sardine and anchovy, they migrate to the shore at spring, which is the best time for anglers to catch them. Silverfish usually breed at East China Sea or Yellow Sea at spring, and come back to South China Sea or Taiwan Strait at winter, so they have seasonal migration behavior.
This time we fish at very early morning, and target within the port, when the full tide draw back, small fishes would swim within the port, so the silverfish would chase within the port. The new HR lures we use today are HUMP MINNOW 55S and WOBBLER 50SR, which all has tongue plate that can swim to deeper water, it would be effective since silver fish stay at deeper water layer after morning.
Before fishing it would be helpful to know the habit of the target fish first, so you can catch them easier and have a lot of fun.
