As a rock fishing enthusiast, I've noticed the weather getting warmer, and so is the water temperature. In high water temperatures, root fish become more active. Groupers are warm-water, bottom-dwelling fish that prefer to settle in. During late spring and summer, they move into shallow water areas, making it the perfect time to go lure fishing for rockfish.
This time I used Rock Master multi-section rod, with 4 specifications: RMS-565SUL, RMS-695UL, RMS-785L, and RMS-825ML. I headed to the Wanshan Islands in Zhuhai, China, for fishing. The islands are surrounded by abundant rocky structures where rockfish thrive, so disappointment in fishing for them is rare.
When fishing for rockfish, I primarily used the HR Rock Fish Master - Rock CARW, sized at 2.4 inches, which is very appealing to them. Additionally, the bait contains chitin and phosphorus shrimp scent to enhance its attractiveness. The groupers bit one after another. What I concern wasn't the lack of fish biting, but rather ensuring I had enough Rock CARW. With Joint knocker head, Free rig and HR Worm Hook #4, it significantly reduced the risk of snagging. The effectiveness of these setups was very noticeable on that day.
During the journey, I brought all 4 specs of the multi-section rod, and the convenience of a multi-section rod lies in its excellent portability and easy storage. Bringing all four specs at once was no trouble at all, allowing us to move swiftly and seamlessly, just as we intended. Our approach focused primarily on different fishing techniques such as soft bait, jigging, hard bait, and egi, tailored specifically for the waters around the Wanshan Islands to fish the species like groupers, squids, and migratory fish.
I hope this article provides interested anglers with a preliminary guide, helping them choose the right equipment and go fishing happily and successfully!
ROD RECOMMONDATION > ROCK MASTER MULTI PIECE ROCKFISH ROD
For harbor areas, recommended using the RMS-565SUL, which is ideal for precise wall-hugging or short-distance searches. Its shorter length provides quick responsiveness and ease of operation. The shorter rod also offers higher sensitivity, especially when paired with small jig heads and small soft baits.
For harbor areas, intertidal zones, and estuaries, the RMS-695UL and RMS-785L are recommended. These rods are suitable for short to medium-distance searches with a broader coverage range. They have moderate length and medium-fast action, making them versatile for both hard and soft bait fishing. They are excellent choices for anglers looking for versatility.
For harbor areas, intertidal zones, and estuaries, the RMS-825ML is suggested. It's ideal for long-distance searches with an extensive coverage range, being the longest among the multi-section specifications. It features fast action, designed specifically for pinpoint targeting at longer distances. It's well-suited for techniques such as soft bait fishing, micro jigging, eging, and Tenya rigs.

LURE RECOMMENDATION > HR Rock Fish Master - Rock CARW
HR Rock Fish Master - Rock CARW in 2.4-inch size is simply collect and start the swimming style, flapping the claws underwater like a shrimp, and the high-frequency fluctuation effect generated by the back of the foot can be achieved simultaneously. Adding chitin and krill to the material enhances its allure, while adding salt to the body increases its density. The streamlined design is more convenient to shuttle through obstacles such as rocks. It is recommended to match HR's jig head with HR VH-10 offset hook or Texas fishing rig, jig heads and so on.
