In autumn, as starting preparing and storing up energy for the winter, black sea breams and sea bass also grow plumper. So this is the perfect time to collect stamps featuring black porgies and sea bass. Let’s go—come with me to the estuary for some fishing!
In the March 2025 issue, the strategies for targeting black sea bream at estuary included a general introduction to the selection of hard and soft lures. For soft-lure fishing, the main method involves using a free-rig setup paired with HR ROCK MASTER - ROCK CARW. The choice of sinker shape for the free rig depends on the current and bottom structure. When fishing over sandy or hard pebble bottoms without current, a slender sinker is recommended. It allows the lure to reach the bottom quickly and reduces air resistance during casting, which helps achieve longer casts. On the other hand, for muddy bottoms without current, a large, teardrop-shaped sinker works better, as it prevents the sinker from digging into the mud upon landing. This keeps the lure visible and avoids it getting buried in the sediment while dragging. When there is current, the retrieval should mainly involve a dragging action. If the sinker lifts off the bottom, it will be carried away by the flow, preventing it from gliding smoothly over the fish-holding areas — which could result in missing a strike opportunity.
For your fishing rod, HR’s brand-new BAYOU HUNTER Travel Rod Series is an excellent choice. Specially designed for lure fishing in estuaries, it features an adjustable multi-section design that allows anglers to flexibly change the rod length according to different fishing environments—perfect for streams, estuaries, harbors, and embankments. The rod is built with NET-V III structure and SNVC ultra-high-density carbon fiber, combining superior strength and resilience to deliver stable control and excellent sensitivity. The multi-piece construction ensures smooth joint transitions, providing a seamless casting and retrieving feel, making it equally capable in both freshwater and saltwater settings. It’s equipped with a solid wood and aluminum alloy reel seat, reinforced with a dual locking knob system to secure the reel tightly and prevent loosening during use. The entire series also features FUJI SIC guides, offering high durability, reduced line tangles, and reliable performance during long fishing sessions. “BAYOU HUNTER” breaks through the boundaries of fishing locations—inviting you to embark on a carefree fishing journey, exploring the world and realizing your dream of angling anywhere, anytime.
BAYOU HUNTER BGS-724/855ML
ML power model has a casting weight range of 7–25g and is designed for use with PE line rated at #1. It’s best suited for estuary channel-type fishing environments, where moderate current and structure call for versatile lure handling. The recommended reel size pairing for this rod is a 3000–4000 class spinning reel, providing an ideal balance between line capacity, drag performance, and overall rod balance.
BAYOU HUNTER BGS-754/885MH
MH power model has a casting weight range of 10–50g and is designed for use with PE line rated at #1.5. It’s ideal for heavy-structure fishing environments, such as oyster racks, shoreline embankments, and rocky areas, where greater strength and control are required to handle strong fish and avoid snags. The recommended reel size for this setup is in the 4000–5000 class, offering enhanced torque, stronger drag performance, and better balance when working lures or fighting fish in challenging terrain.
