First, we need to understand the behavior of the target fish. The clown knife fish has a nesting and guarding behavior, and it also comes to the surface to breathe, which helps us locate its activity area. When fishing, we can search in its direction. The clown knife fish hunts by waiting, so the bait needs to pass right in front of it before it bites. During the search, first use a 5–7 gram lead head hook to test the water depth and timing, roughly understanding the depth before choosing an appropriate depth for the bait. Focus on searching in the middle to lower water layers, with a 3-meter radius centered around the breathing point.
● Use micro jig weights (3–12 grams), jig head hooks (3.5–10 grams), VIB lures (5–10 grams)
● Use bottom hopping and jerking to allow the bait to sink slowly
◇ For Minnow lures, use a steady and slow sinking, which will increase the chances of catching fish and enhance the fishing experience.
