In Taiwan July is the hottest summer season, it is a struggle to go fishing under 35 degree, unless you submerge in cool stream water. For stream fishing, the spinibarbus hollandi is the most powerful target, and over these years they have reproduce a lot, so you can see them at almost any river, when fishing at a new spot for the first time, I would use top water lure first to see how it goes, the Valley Hunter Pencil 65 is what I like to use, 6.5cm length with moving weight inside, it is easy to cast and has great sound in water, the size is also perfect for spinibarbus hollandi to bite, if you need long range casting, the Valley Hunter Pencil 85 is also a good choice, by using with Valley Hunter VHS-712ML or VHS-694ML, casting over 50 meters would not be a problem. When the water is calm, the Valley hunter minnow 55s or VIB are good choices, VIB is good for searching the bottom, on the other hand, the minnow 55s is slow sinking lure, the weight shifting design make it easy to cast and has a long range, with wide tongue and body, it has bigger sway motion, the tongue is thicker than normal which can absorb the impact of hitting the rock, the water layer it stay is at 0.3~0.5m, which is suitable for stream fishing or shore casting, overall it's a versertile minnow for different environment.

The rod I like to use is Valley Hunter series VHS-712ML、VHS-692L、VHS-684L、VHS-664UL, you can use differnt rods according to the size of lure you use and the environment, for casting handle I like to use VHC-664L, which is easy to use and has great action to catch fresh water bass, spinibarbus hollandi, grouper, channa micropeltes, etc, for salt water it can catch black sea bream, big-eye herring, barramundi, etc. Because Valley Hunter rod has powerful and elastic blank with sensitive tip, it is easy to cast and sensitive to feel every motion underwater, the powerful blank can secure the fish from unhooking, and stable it's motion from wearing off the line on rock, which can increase the chance to catch the fish.
